FT Renewable, Gustavus Adolphus College MN

Position Details: Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time (9-month) non-tenure-track, renewable position of Adjunct Instructor in the Department of Physics to begin September 1, 2016.
Minimum Required Qualifications: We seek candidates who have earned an M.S. in physics or a related field. The successful candidate will have experience in teaching physics at the undergraduate level, including labs. This will include familiarity with laboratory instructional and computer equipment, as well as laboratory and instructional software and interfaced hardware. Very good organizational and communication skills are a requirement of this position. The successful candidate will also have the ability to work with minimum supervision.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated excellence in teaching physics. We are interested in applicants who will complement our commitment to students and faculty from diverse cultural groups, and who will diversify the expertise and experiences represented in the department.
Major/Essential Functions: The annual teaching load for the position will be five courses (typically 10 contact hours per semester). Primary teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate introductory-level physics courses and labs. In addition to teaching, the Instructor must: help prepare and revise laboratory manuals; set up laboratory equipment and train and supervise student lab assistants and peer tutors; help manage laboratory and demonstration equipment and supplies; and acquire competence with a wide variety of laboratory and instructional software and interfaced hardware. The department will support professional development, including active involvement with physics-teaching and technical-support organizations. Given our large cohort of talented student majors, conducting research in physics (or physics education) involving them is certainly possible, although it is not an expectation of the position.
Application and Institution Information: Electronic application is required; email application materials as separate PDFs to physicssearch@gustavus.edu. The application materials must include a letter of application, curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching effectiveness, undergraduate and graduate-studies transcripts (scanned copies acceptable), and three confidential letters of professional recommendation (sent directly from the reference).
