Assistant/Associate Professor of Mathematics & Physics
Pfeiffer University is seeking applicants for an Assistant/Associate Professor of Mathematics & Physics to support the overall mission and vision of Pfeiffer University through excellence in teaching and advising students. The position is a 9 month, full-time position to begin in August, 2017. A commitment to the principles of servant leadership, working with graduate and adult students, and involvement in university and community service is strongly desired. Responsibilities include classroom/laboratory instruction and office hours for students, and research development. Teaching responsibilities include lectures and laboratories in upper level math courses and the general physics series. Research responsibilities involve setting up a suitable undergraduate research project for student involvement. The applicant must be able to teach a wide variety of courses, including the calculus sequence, geometry, probability and statistics, numerical analysis, and discrete math.
Person must have a commitment to undergraduate teaching and mentoring in the liberal arts tradition. Teaching responsibilities include lectures in mathematics and physics and laboratories introductory physics. Hold a minimum of six office hours per week on no fewer than four different days. Prepare course outline and syllabus, develop course and lesson plans, and engage in the selection of textbook and other teaching aids necessary to the instruction of courses. Teach pertinent course subject using lectures, demonstrations, class discussion, and other appropriate modes of educational delivery. Lead and monitor classroom instruction that promotes educational and learning process keeping with faculty academic freedom and responsibility. Evaluate and grade student performance. Responsible for producing and distributing course learning objectives. Create and implement undergraduate research project working with students in the Milton Rose research scholarship.
Qualifications require a Ph.D. in Mathematics or Physics with at least 18 hours in each discipline. ABD considered.
