This nine month (August-May), tenure track appointment begins in January 2011 (Half year appointment in the first year).
Responsibilities: The faculty member will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses including general physics, mechanics, and electrodynamics and nonmajors science courses, supervising undergraduate research, and mentoring students. Faculty members are also expected to develop a research program and obtain external funding through grant writing. Other responsibilities include advising majors and senior projects, serving on University and departmental committees and performing community service. In addition, faculty members perform other duties as required in support of organizational goals.
Qualifications: An earned doctorate in physics with the ability to teach with technology, familiarity with instructional methods promoting student engagement and evidence of scholarly research and outstanding teaching ability are required. Qualifications to teach college chemistry are desirable as well, but not essential. Research projects and curriculum development related to cybersecurity, forensic science, biotechnology, bioinformatics, or energy technology will align with the vision of the College of STEM at JCSU.

The work will involve coordination of a large-scale software development effort, integration of computer vision systems, close collaborations with other groups engaged in similar activities, and helping to disseminate the use of the ILT. Teaching Problem Solving
Participate in newly funded program to develop diagnostic instruments to measure the degree of expertise in physics problem solving and to develop pedagogy to teach such expertise. Our developing online environment involves an open source WIKI-text based on our new Modeling Applied to Problem Solving pedagogy that is integrated with the tutors MasteringPhysics.com and LON_CAPA.org. One postdoc will have a Ph.D or Ed.D in physics/science education, educational psychology, or psychometrics, and must have experience in teaching physics. Participate in newly funded program to develop diagnostic instruments to measure the degree of expertise in physics problem solving and to develop pedagogy to teach such expertise. Our developing online environment involves an open source WIKI-text based on our new Modeling Applied to Problem Solving pedagogy that is integrated with the tutors MasteringPhysics.com and LON_CAPA.org. One postdoc will have a Ph.D or Ed.D in physics/science education, educational psychology, or psychometrics, and must have experience in teaching physics. Some familiarity with theories of learning, test design and validation, and/or analysis of large educational datasets is desirable. A second position requires very strong computer programming (perl, web applications, MySQL) and/or statistics/data analysis skills.
