Lecturer at Univ. of California, Santa Barbara

The Department of Physics together with the College of Creative Studies (CCS) at the University of California, Santa Barbara is seeking candidates for a Lecturer with Potential Security of Employment, with the appointment to start in Fall 2011. Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field and a deep interest in teaching. The Department, together with CCS, runs an intensive program for gifted majors, and the candidate will be expected to teach in that program, as well as teach a range of regular physics courses in the Department. The CCS program effort also requires actively recruiting students as well as advising them. Further information may be found on the websites for the Department, http://www.physics.ucsb.edu, and for CCS, http://www.ccs.ucsb.edu.

The Department is committed to identifying excellent candidates who can contribute to the diversity of the academic community. Candidates should submit a statement of teaching interests, a curriculum vita, and a list of publications, and should arrange for at least three letters of recommendation to be sent by e-mail to searches@physics.ucsb.edu. The subject line should indicate Application for Lecturer in Physics. Applications will be considered starting November 15, 2010 and will be accepted until the position is filled. The University of California is an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action Employer.

[Ed. note: "Security of Employment" is roughly equivalent to tenure for lecturer positions within the UC system. Even though we are labeling this post as non-TT -- since it is not a TT faculty position -- there is a possibility of long-term employment.]
