Assistant Editor at American Physical Society

The American Physical Society (APS), the publisher of Physical Review Letters and the Physical Review, seeks an Assistant Editor to join the staff of its online publication Physics (physics.aps.org). Each week, Physics highlights top papers appearing in the APS journals with expert commentaries (Viewpoints) and editor summaries (Synopses). We are seeking a talented individual to participate in all aspects of this web publication: selecting papers, commissioning and editing commentaries, and writing. The new editor would also take a leading role in reaching new audiences for Physics and furthering the publicity of APS research. For more information and confidential inquiries contact edresumes@aps.org

A PhD in the physical sciences, a strong research background, and demonstrated skill communicating scientific results to a broad audience are required. An ability to work on tight deadlines is a must. Previous experience as a science writer or editor is preferred, but not essential.

APS offers a competitive starting salary and an outstanding benefits package. The new editor would be expected to report to our editorial offices in Ridge, NY, on Long Island, but partial telecommuting is possible. The offices are close to Brookhaven National Lab and Stony Brook University and about 70 miles east of Manhattan.

To apply, submit a cover letter (including salary expectation), a resume, and two short (250 word) ``Synopses", each on a paper from a physics journal of your choosing. (Please choose papers from different subfields of physics.) Submit these materials to:
