TT at Vassar College

The multidisciplinary Program in Science, Technology, and Society (STS) and the Department of Physics invite applications for a joint tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in a field that bridges STS and physics, engineering, or emergent technologies, beginning in fall of 2013. Vassar College is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer strongly and actively committed to diversity within its community.  Applications from members of historically underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will teach 5 courses a year, split in alternating years, 2/3 and 3/2 between STS and Physics.  Within the STS Program, the person in this position will teach our core course in Science and Technology Studies, as well as intermediate and advanced level courses in the candidate’s field of expertise.  In the Physics Department, this position would cover introductory physics, an intermediate-level course if appropriate, and a special studies course in his or her field of expertise.

A Ph.D. in STS or related field (e.g., History and Philosophy of Science) is required, along with substantial undergraduate and, preferably, some graduate work in physics.

Vassar is a highly selective, coeducational liberal arts college of about 2450 undergraduates, located in the beautiful and historic Hudson Valley seventy-five miles north of New York City. The city of Poughkeepsie benefits from rich cultural diversity and from convenient commuter rail access to New York City.
