T in Science Education, UT San Antonio

The Department of Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Texas at San Antonio (COEHD@UTSA.EDU), a recognized Hispanic-serving institution, invites applications for an Associate Professor of Curriculum and Instruction/Science Education beginning Fall 2014.

Responsibilities include: (a) teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses that are offered at the UTSA Main Campus, the UTSA Downtown Campus, and on public school campuses; (b) advising graduate students; (c) serving on thesis and doctoral committees; (d) conducting an active program of research; (e) obtaining external grant funding;  (f) providing service and leadership to department, college, university, and community constituencies in the area of Curriculum and Instruction/Science Education or a related area; and (g) active service and leadership in professional organizations at the local, state, and national/international levels.

Required Qualifications: (a) earned doctorate with an emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction/Science Education or related area; (b) a minimum of 18 graduate hours in science content; (c) experience related to culturally and linguistically diverse populations; and (d) evidence of research and publication record commensurate with position. Applicants for Associate Professor must meet the university's criteria for promotion and tenure at the associate level.

Preferred Qualifications: (a) knowledge of current and emerging research methodologies, techniques, and theories in Curriculum & Instruction/Science Education or related area; (b) graduate level coursework in the physical sciences; (c) expertise in quantitative research methodology; (d) university teaching and supervising/mentoring experience; (e) experience with instructional technology; (f) evidence of external funding; (g) experience working with doctoral students; and (h) evidence of teaching in an EC-12 school.
