TWO NTT Assistant Professors In Residence, University of Connecticut

The Department of Physics at the University of Connecticut invites applications for positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in Residence, beginning in Fall 2019. Two positions will be filled at the UConn Storrs campus.

As part of these initiatives, UConn has hired more than 450 new faculty at all ranks during the past three years. The Department of Physics is undergoing a significant change of teaching pedagogy in introductory course sequences through the implementation of studio-based courses enabled by brand new state-of-the-art teaching facilities. We are pleased to continue these investments by inviting applications for teaching faculty positions in the Department of Physics.
The successful candidates will be expected to share a deep commitment to effective instruction at the undergraduate level and to the mentoring of students in their professional development.  Candidates will also share a commitment to the development and innovative improvement of physics courses under the framework of the department’s studio physics project.  In addition, individuals will be expected to contribute to the scholarship of teaching and outreach activities.  Successful candidates will also be expected to broaden participation among members of under-represented groups; integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods and research tools; and contribute to the development of pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. in physics, astronomy, or a related field; the ability to teach a full range of courses at the undergraduate level; and evidence of outstanding teaching.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated exposure to and experience implementing teaching practices guided by physics education research such as studio physics; experience with educational technologies, such as online homework systems, message boards, instructional videos, smart boards, or classroom personal response systems (“clickers”); experience teaching large lectures.
APPOINTMENT TERMS
This is a 9-month, annually renewable, non-tenure track position with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2019.  This one-year contract may be renewed or lead to a multi-year contract in the future. This position does not lead to permanent academic tenure. This position will be filled subject to budgetary approval.
Salary will be commensurate with experience. Summer teaching is not included in the standard 9-month appointment and is not mandatory but may be available.
