DESCRIPTION

The UCI Education Research Initiative is looking to hire an Academic Administrator to help guide and implement its mission. Under the direction of the Initiative Director, the incumbent is responsible for the management and administration of the Education Research Initiative (ERI), a multidisciplinary community of educators and researchers who care about improving the educational experience of our undergraduates, particularly for traditionally minoritized students. Responsibilities include: coordinating all ERI activities including the seminar series, ERI-related research projects, conferences, and grant submissions; and cultivating a community of ERI-affiliates both on and off the UC Irvine campus. In consultation with the Program Director and other participants, the incumbent will serve as the primary liaison with seminar speakers, research collaborators, and other ERI-partners. The incumbent will maintain and update a program website advertising events and activities and will handle social media communications for the initiative.

Examples of ERI-related research projects include NSF-funded projects examining the impact of the University of California Professor of Teaching position, the development of STEM student social networks during their first year, and a 2-year/4-year faculty learning community program to collaboratively create, implement, and assess common programs.

The incumbent will have the opportunity to contribute to all aspects of ERI research programs, from literature reviews, study design, instrument development, data collection, and manuscript preparation and presentation. The incumbent will also have the opportunity to attend and present at education research conferences and professional development workshops. We envision a split of roughly 60% administrative duties and 40% research duties. Examples of ERI-related grant projects include NSF 1821724 and NSF 1920315). Both qualitative and quantitative methodologies are valued in these projects.

Requirements include an advanced degree in a relevant discipline (STEM, Education, Social Sciences); PhD preferred; demonstrated skill and success in both oral and written communications with a broad array of constituents; ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently while meeting deadlines; ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction; high level of fluency in using business software applications including MS Office; experience managing a budget; demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and security of records and documents. Relevant research skills include experience with survey design, conducting interviews, quantitative data analysis, familiarity with institutional data, and grant writing. The position start date late summer and is funded for one year. The appointment may be extended upon the procurement of additional funding.
