TT in Science Education: 1 in Elementary, 1 in Middle/Secondary - Univ of Louisville

The Department of Middle & Secondary Education at the University of Louisville invite applications for a tenure-track, open rank faculty position in SCIENCE EDUCATION. In alignment with the University’s goal to become a premier metropolitan research university, the Departments seek individuals who have a strong research program, or the clear potential for one, and whose research includes a focus on science education within some portion of the preschool-grade 12 setting. We are open to a broad range of research areas relevant to science education, including for example: student science learning, science teacher development, collaborations with post-secondary science faculty and instruction, environmental education, or opportunities and challenges of science teaching in urban settings. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, advising, conducting research, seeking external funding, contributing to reciprocal partnerships with schools and with University programs in the sciences and engineering, participating in ongoing program development, and providing service to the department, college, university, professional associations and community partners.

Minimum Qualifications:
•       Doctoral degree in science education or closely related field (outstanding ABD candidates with a short timeline for completion will be considered)
•       Demonstrated competence in K-12 teaching in United States’ schools
•       Demonstrated ability to work well with colleagues and participate in collaborative inquiry
•       Demonstrated evidence of, or desire for, community engaged scholarship and partnership experiences with schools
•       Demonstrated excellence or potential in science education research
•       Evidence of, or strong potential for, grant writing and grant-funded research
Preferred Qualifications:
•       Demonstrated successful teaching experience in teacher preparation programs
•       Evidence of incorporating technology in instructional practices
•       Experience in mentoring graduate students

Applicants for a position at an assistant professor level should have an earned doctorate in science education or a related field and the promise of an externally funded research program. In addition to an earned doctorate in science education, applicants for a position at an associate or full professor level should also have – at rank-appropriate level – a strong record of publication in recognized research journals, a record of external funding, evidence of excellence in teaching, service to the profession at the national level, and the ability to mentor junior faculty and doctoral students.

SALARY: Competitive, based upon qualifications and experience
