Description:
The Physics and Astronomy academic unit is home to faculty experts in physics, astronomy, and optics, as well as a group of dedicated support staff and students. Teaching assignments will likely include for position 1: PHYS 231 (algebra-based physics), ENGR 334 (upper-division thermodynamics), and ENGR 332 (upper-division electronics); and for position 2: PHYS 100 (preparatory physics), PHYS 103 (concepts in physics), and PHYS 231 (algebra-based physics).

The successful candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate courses with laboratories at all levels in the academic unit, especially the courses mentioned above, to fully engage in an environment of innovation and collaboration that is focused on student success, to advise students, to engage in scholarly activities, and to participate in continual development of curriculum and assessment activities.
Qualifications and experience:
Required:
- A Ph.D. in physics or a closely-related area (or ABD with degree completion verified by August 1, 2014)
- Evidence of ability to teach physics lecture and laboratory courses effectively at all levels, especially (position 1) algebra-based physics, upper-division thermodynamics and upper-division electronics, and (position 2) preparatory physics, concepts in physics, and algebra-based physics. Evidence of experience would be teaching evaluations or student evaluations, etc.
- Evidence of demonstrated ability to teach and work with persons from culturally diverse backgrounds.
- Research and/or teaching experience in physics beyond the Ph.D.
