We are seeking a post-doctoral fellow to join a team of faculty and
graduate students working on an NSF-funded research and development
project focused on peer review of writing in high school science
classrooms. The project, led by a cross-disciplinary team of researchers
at the University of Pittsburgh (Chris Schunn, Amanda Godley, Diane
Litman), use an online peer review system called SWoRD to improve
academic writing across content areas in U.S. high schools. Our current
project includes (1) the development of intelligent scaffolding tools
for improving students’ peer reviews, thesis writing, and revision
practices, and (2) the development of an online platform for high school
science teachers to develop their science writing instruction,
including peer review. General information about the project can be
found at: https://sites.google.com/site/swordlrdc/.
The post-doctoral fellow will be responsible for leading significant
aspects of data collection, communication with participating teachers,
instructional design, and analysis of data. Data sources include student
writing, student peer reviews, student interviews and questionnaires,
teacher interviews and questionnaires, and teachers’ use of the online
tools.
We seek an individual who has a background in research on
secondary writing and experience working with or in secondary schools
(in any content area). The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. in literacy
studies, curriculum and instruction (any content area), learning
sciences, cognitive psychology, or educational psychology with a
research focus on secondary writing or content-area writing and have
experience in qualitative and quantitative analysis.
Review of
applications will be ongoing. Applicants are asked to send a cover
letter, curriculum vitae, names of three individuals who can serve as
references, and a writing sample to Dr. Amanda Godley at agodley@pitt.edu.
