The College of Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology announces a
search for Executive Director of the Center for Education Integrating
Science, Mathematics, and Computing (CEISMC). CEISMC, established in 1991,
has as its primary goal "to ensure that K-12 students in Georgia and across
the nation receive the best possible preparation in science, technology,
engineering, and mathematics (STEM) as they seek their place in the modern
world". CEISMC serves as a bridge to link the enormous accomplishments and
talents of Georgia Tech faculty and students with the tremendous
opportunities to partner with K-12 schools, community organizations,
corporations, and policy makers to improve the accessibility and quality of
STEM education.
The Executive Director of CEISMC will provide the vision needed to
revolutionize K-12 education by harnessing Georgia Tech's world-class STEM
expertise. The Director will build and forge dynamic relationships between
Georgia Tech, K-12 schools and districts, community leaders, and key state
educational partners who, together, will create innovative, effective STEM
programming that enhances STEM interest and achievement for elementary,
middle and high school students, especially those under-represented in STEM.
The Director will chair the Georgia Tech STEM Education Council, which
advises Georgia Tech on K-12 STEM matters and promotes intra-campus
coherence and information-exchange. As Georgia Tech's ambassador of K-12
STEM education, the Director will spearhead communication (via 21st century
media channels) of Georgia Tech's STEM educational efforts for both K-12
activities and public outreach/community partnership contributions. In sum,
the Director will inspire and lead Georgia-Tech-infused systemic
transformation of K-12 STEM education at local, state, national and
international levels.
Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in science, engineering, computing,
mathematics or STEM education. They should have experience managing
distributed organizations and working with K-12 schools and districts.
Experience in working with university faculty and undergraduate and graduate
students in STEM fields is essential. A background in conducting STEM
education research or designing and implementing innovative STEM education
in formal or informal settings is highly desirable. Strong candidates will
possess a track record demonstrating the development of relationships that
help secure extra-mural funding. Grant-writing and evaluation expertise are
important as is familiarity with state and federal education and research
funding agencies. Development skills, including work with corporate and
private foundations and donors, are also highly valued.
The Executive Director will report directly to the Dean of the College of
Sciences and will be advised by both internal and external advisory boards.
This is a full-time, 12 month position. Rank and tenure status are open, as
is the possibility of an associate deanship in the College of Sciences.
Salary will be commensurate with expertise.
Applications should include a letter of interest, complete curriculum vitae,
including research, teaching and administrative experience, and names and
contact information for five professional references. Please send
applications to science@cos.gatech.edu, or by regular mail to CEISMC
