Manhattanville College invites applications for a full-time,
tenure-track, interdisciplinary faculty position at the Assistant
Professor
level beginning fall 2015, pending final funding approval. The candidate
must hold a Ph.D. in environmental physics, biophysics, physics,
physical chemistry, geophysics, or geology, and have previous experience
teaching at the undergraduate level in addition to a strong
research background.
The natural sciences are at a crossroads at
Manhattanville College as the College seeks to define new directions
for interdisciplinary work within a liberal arts context. As part of the
College's Strategic Plan, the departments of Biology, Chemistry and
Physics will be merging; this position will initially have the
responsibilities of chair of the physics department and will have the
opportunity to contribute to the design and direction of a newly-created
Department of Natural Sciences. When the merge is complete, the
candidate will focus on interdisciplinary classes in the fields
described above, and on establishing a rigorous research program for
undergraduate students, within a conservative budget.
Applicants
should possess excellent communication skills, and an ability to
work collegially with other faculty members to develop and contribute to
the new department. The candidate will participate in the full
range of faculty responsibilities, including professional development,
teaching as part of the General Education program, advising,
assessment and service on committees.
For consideration, please
submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae (including a list of
publications), and a short description of research interests and
teaching philosophy to humanresources@mville.edu. Letters of
recommendation
should be available upon request.
To ensure full consideration, complete applications should be received by January 30, 2015. Review
of applications will begin February 2, 2015 and will continue until the position is filled.
