TT/T in Science Ed at Chico State

Brief Job Description
The Position: The Department of Science Education at California State University is searching for a tenure track assistant or associate professor to start August 2016. California State University, Chico is seeking faculty who are competent in their field, collaborative with colleagues and staff, and committed to student success. Position is contingent on funding.

Minimum Qualifications: The minimum qualifications for this position are a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Science Education or Education with a Master’s in physics. Equivalent Master’s level course work in physics will be considered, or a Ph.D. in Physics with an emphasis in physics education research. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate may be considered; however, the doctorate must be complete prior to the beginning of the 2016-17 academic year.

Preferred Qualifications: K-12 teaching experience, elementary, middle or high school teaching credential, experience in teaching science to pre-service teachers

Responsibilities: This tenure-track position carries responsibilities in the areas of teaching physics to future elementary school teachers and middle and high school science teachers, scholarship including research publications, conference presentations, research grants, and service through student advising, department, college and university committee assignments and community outreach.

Salary: Salary commensurate with education and experience.

The Department: The Department of Science Education at CSU, Chico was established in 2008. The primary role of the department is to provide science content courses for undergraduates interested in pursuing careers in science teaching and informal science education. Faculty in the department have been awarded over $4 million in grant funding; redesigned the course sequence for future elementary teachers; developed a BA in Natural Sciences program (with 44 majors and growing); cultivated a cross-disciplinary community of researchers engaged in discipline based education research; developed strong partnerships with the Gateway Science Museum and the Center for Math and Science Education; diversified our teacher professional development efforts; and expanded our early practicum experiences for future teachers.
