Position Summary Information
Position Description: | The Department of Physics at North Dakota State University is seeking an Assistant Professor of Practice in Physics beginning Aug 16, 2016. The primary responsibility for this position is teaching introductory-level physics courses, which will account for about 80% of the successful candidate’s workload. As such, a commitment to excellence in teaching is required. The appointment has an initial contract of three years, and is renewable and promotable, typically for additional periods of three years, at minimum. Although a Professor of Practice is not eligible for tenure, the contract qualifies for repeated renewal. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching two large-enrollment service courses per semester. The department strongly supports candidates that have experience with and interest in implementing research-based teaching methods. Participation in outreach activities and providing effective advising and committee service is expected. Although establishing a research program is not required, the successful candidate may ask to pursue a limited amount of research in one of the department’s main areas of focus as part of the duties. However, the ideal applicant’s primary interest should be in teaching introductory physics courses at NDSU for the long term. NDSU is an ADVANCE institution. |
