Job Description:
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the State University of New York College at Oneonta invites applications for a non-tenure-track position as a Lecturer beginning Fall 2016. Expectations include teaching, college service, and continuing professional development. The Physics and Astronomy Department currently has six full-time faculty and supports approximately 90 physics majors, an active 3-2 Engineering program, and an astronomy minor. The Department has an impressive astronomy infrastructure including New York State's largest telescope (40" JMI) and a planetarium with an Evans and Sutherland projection and sound system. Duties include but not limited to: managing, coordinating, and teaching general physics and more advanced laboratory sections; and working to enhance and specialize the physics experience for undergraduates. This position allows for creative innovation and independence as well as an opportunity to engage in research projects with faculty and students, or to be involved in departmental outreach involving our planetarium and observatory.
Requirements:
Required Qualifications: Masters degree in physics, engineering, or astronomy.
Preferred: PhD in physics, engineering, or astronomy at time of initial appointment; experience teaching courses referred to in Duties; experience including undergraduates in research projects; and experience working with diverse populations and/or teaching pedagogies and/or multicultural teaching experience.
