Job Summary
The Department of Physics and Astronomy in the College of Arts and Sciences seeks an Academic Coordinator to serve as Physics Education and Technology Specialist. The department has a strong commitment to undergraduate education and values innovative approaches to instruction. The department is in the process of upgrading its introductory physics curriculum. The Academic Coordinator will have the opportunity to play a central role in supporting the enhancement of undergraduate physics education at the University of Kentucky.

The primary duties of this position include managing the day to day operations of the Physics tutoring center; coordinating with other campus student support services; assisting with supervision of graduate student teaching assistants in charge of Introductory Physics laboratory courses; assisting with the management of the operations and facilities of instructional laboratories; assisting with the procurement, development and organization of equipment and materials for instructional laboratories and lecture demonstrations; ensuring that instructional laboratories and active learning classrooms are fully operational and prepared for each laboratory class; and supervision of laboratories during 8-week summer session.

Preferred Education/Experience
Advanced degree in Physics or related field; graduate-level experience in a laboratory science; experience working in an instructional or research laboratory setting; experience with Active Learning and/or other innovative approaches to instruction; demonstrated ability to collaborate with faculty, lecturers and teaching assistants in the design and implementation of laboratory exercises.
