Position Description
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the College of Charleston has two visiting assistant professor positions in physics and/or astronomy available for the academic year 2016-2017, August 16, 2016 – May 15, 2017. The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. in physics or astronomy and must be able to accept legal employment in the United States. The teaching load is 12 contact hours per semester in a combination of physics and astronomy lectures and labs. The department consists of 18 roster faculty. Enrollment in each introductory physics or astronomy lecture is typically 48 students per semester with lab sizes of up to 24 students. Applicants must submit a cover letter, vita and statement of teaching philosophy, along with names and contact information for three references that can address their teaching ability or potential to: jobs.cofc.edu no later than June 30, 2016. The College is a four-year liberal arts state-supported institution with over 10,000 undergraduate students and several graduate programs, located in the center of Historic Charleston.
