Position Description:
The Department of Teaching and Learning at the University of Iowa invites applications for one to two academic year tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of assistant or associate professor in Science Education and STEM with an elementary or secondary focus beginning August 2016 or a negotiated start date.


We seek one to two individuals with evidence of significant professional promise or accomplishment in research that impacts the areas of science education and the STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering, mathematics).  The successful candidate will teach undergraduate- and graduate-level courses and pursue research with a program that emphasizes a strong agenda on teaching and learning in science classrooms or STEM.


Responsibilities


The successful applicant will continue a robust disciplinary and interdisciplinary research program in science education and STEM education; design and teach undergraduate/graduate courses in science education and STEM education with a commitment to online offerings; and advise MA and PhD students.  In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to pursue and secure external funding, participate in the activities of professional organizations, and be involved with state and national activities that support the practice of science education and STEM education.
Education Requirement:
Prospective candidates must have earned a doctorate in science education or a related field by August 2016.
Required Qualifications:

  1. evidence of scholarly productivity and/or promise of such in science education and/or STEM education

  2. successful teaching experience in K-12 classrooms

  3. evidence of teaching skills

  4. potential for securing external funds for research, training, and program development

  5. interest in/experience with building partnerships with local schools and communities

  6. ability to work collaboratively and with diverse populations

  7. commitment to developing and teaching online courses
Desirable Qualifications:

  1. experience in teaching elementary or secondary science methods courses and/or STEM education courses

  2. work experience in science, mathematics, engineering, and technology integration

  3. experience working with local schools and communities through outreach and public engagement activities

  4. experience in securing external funds for research, training, and/or program development

  5. experience teaching and/or designing online instruction
