Merrimack College seeks a full-time Physics Laboratory Manager. Laboratory management responsibilities include setting up and taking down equipment for demonstrations and student experiments in large introductory course sections; organizing and managing departmental inventory and instruction areas; and coordinating the purchase of equipment, supplies, and perishables as needed. The successful candidate will also need to learn how to manage and operate the department’s Observatory (and its 20-inch telescope) for introductory astronomy labs. Instructional responsibilities include teaching introductory physics courses and laboratories and evaluating student laboratory work in accordance with guidelines established by departmental faculty. An M.S. or Ph.D. in Physics and appropriate teaching and laboratory experience are preferred. Physical requirements include the ability to safely move, lift, manipulate, set up, and take down laboratory and demonstration equipment for large introductory courses on a daily basis. Since fall 2014 the physics department has taught all introductory physics course in an interactive, integrated lecture/lab format; the potential to teach successfully in this format is essential.
