Whittier College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Experimental Physics & Electrical/Electronics Engineering within the Department of Physics and Astronomy starting September 2017.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Experimental Physics with a strong background in electronics, or a Ph.D. in Electrical/Electronics Engineering with a strong background in physics (ABD considered). Excellence in teaching as well as active research involving undergraduates is essential. The successful candidate should be able to teach introductory physics courses, modern physics, an electronics course emphasizing circuit design and computer logic, in addition to other upper-level courses. A willingness to teach interdisciplinary courses such as Science and Society or Freshman Writing is also highly desirable. Candidates will be judged primarily on their teaching ability and their dedication to close interaction with undergraduates. Student advising and committee work are also expected. The successful candidate will participate in establishing a new interdisciplinary Computer Science major, and will have an office and laboratory space in the brand new Science and Learning Center.

To apply, please send a letter of interest, CV, a statement of teaching philosophy and experience, evidence of effective teaching, a research plan that can involve undergraduates, and unofficial graduate transcripts to physics-search@whittier.edu. Also arrange for three confidential letters of recommendation to be sent by the references to the same address. PDFs preferred for all materials.

For full consideration, complete applications must be received by Dec. 15, 2016. Women and minorities are particularly encouraged to apply.
