Job Description
The University of the Virgin Islands is advertising one full-time non-tenure-track faculty position. This position is designed to support the expansion of UVI's dual degree applied mathematics program to the Albert A. Sheen campus, to reinforce STEM and STEM education offerings there, and to support the new physics major. Successful candidates will be expected to teach introductory and mid-level physics and mathematics while furthering the goals of these programs outside the classroom and in the community.

Employment is expected to begin in January, 2018. Compensation will be commensurate with the teaching and research experience level of the successful candidates. One-way travel for the appointee and immediate family as well as an allowance for shipping costs will be paid by the University for relocation to St. Croix.

Required Qualifications
Successful applicants will hold a PhD in Physics, Applied Mathematics, Physics Education, or a related discipline at the time of appointment.

The College of Mathematics and Physical Sciences has a strong commitment to education in the broadest sense. The ideal candidate will desire to engage actively with students at the university and in the community to increase STEM aptitude across the US Virgin Islands.

Advertised Job Duties
The Department of Chemistry and Physical Sciences in the College of Science and Mathematics at UVI is seeking candidates for a full-time, non-tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in the Spring of 2018. Commitment to quality undergraduate teaching, continuing scholarship and university service are required.

This position supports the expansion of UVI's physics and applied mathematics offerings in the College of Science and Mathematics and on the Albert A. Sheen campus on the island of St. Croix. The successful candidate will be able to lead introductory and mid-level physics courses while also teaching introductory mathematics as needed, generally at the algebra and pre-calculus levels. The successful candidate is also expected to take advantage of opportunities for development of a research program, ranging from projects with VI-EPSCoR, to the scholarship of teaching and learning to developing activities to complement that active astrophysics research ongoing at Etelman Observatory on the St. Thomas campus.
