The Department of Physics and Computer Science and the Dual Degree Engineering Program at Xavier University of Louisiana invites applicants for a tenure track assistant professor of Physics for the 2020 - 2021 academic year commencing August 2020. An ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Physics with areas of special interest that include Robotics or Bioengineering.
The successful applicant will teach 12 credit hours per semester and will be able to teach all levels of undergraduate Physics. An ideal candidate will be dedicated to excellence in teaching; will have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and will have demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for disadvantaged students.
Successful applicants will 1) demonstrate the ability to develop and teach classes to undergraduate students at all levels; 2) develop and maintain an active research program; 3) mentor undergraduate students in research projects; 4) advise physics majors; and 5) participate in service activities for the Department, University and their discipline.
Willingness to work collegially with a 4-4 teaching load is essential. The Department of Physics and Computer Science and the Dual Degree Engineering Program offers all levels of instruction for undergraduates and offers minors, majors, and concentrations. The Department also offers a 3-2 Engineering program and plans to begin a program in Robotics Engineering in the near future.
