Teaching Professor: Open Rank


The Physics Department at North Carolina State University is seeking a dedicated educator to lead efforts to improve our introductory physics lab sequence using tools from modern Physics Education Research.


Applications are invited for a full-time Open Rank Teaching Professor position (Professional Faculty Track) in the NC State University Department of Physics beginning in Summer or Fall 2021. This position is accorded professional rank with an initial appointment for three years and the opportunity of renewal and promotion to higher faculty rank.


The focus of the position is on creating and equipping modern, engaging, introductory physics laboratory courses for non-majors, based on pedagogical best-practices. This will include a commitment to improving the success of students from marginalized and under-represented groups, through both the application of research-based methods and cooperation with existing campus programs. The candidate will also regularly teach lab and/or lecture classes and supervise graduate teaching assistants in pedagogy, inclusive practices, and professionalism. Other roles and responsibilities will be shaped by the strengths and interests of the individual.

Requirements for the position: Ph.D in Physics, Physics Education, or a related technical or scientific field, with teaching experience.
