Manage and direct the operations of the Physics Lecture Demonstration Office.

General Notes

An energetic candidate is sought to perform, coordinate, and direct the activities of our physics lecture demonstration classrooms and demonstration preparation rooms.

Responsibilities

•    Hire, train and supervise Demo Office support staff, including maintaining payroll records, conducting training sessions for staff and faculty, and providing overview of each week's demonstrations.

•    Maintenance of the lecture demonstration collection, including construction, repair, and refurbishing of Physics demonstrations used in the Painter classrooms. Designing, building, or purchasing new instructor-recommended demonstrations or supplies. Reporting of problems concerning the physical condition of the Painter classrooms and the classroom multimedia system.

•    Maintenance of the Lecture Demonstrations website to include updating HTML documents and an online inventory of demonstration-related photos, videos, links to videos; also, updating the web-based system for requesting demonstrations in the Painter classrooms.

•    Delivery of lecture demonstrations for classes taught in Painter Hall.

•    Delivery and performance of lecture demonstrations for updated videos, to include both brief instructional and longer pedagogical videos of each demonstration.

•    Prepare and perform the traditional Physics Circus as an outreach activity, including several special days per year (Parent's Day; Explore UT Day; Physics High School Teachers Workshops), without interfering with availability of demonstrations for the core classrooms taught in the Painter Lecture Halls.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree.  Mechanical and electrical skills. Ability to supervise and manage  student employees.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Physics or a related field.  Expertise in physics experiments or demonstrations, including mechanical, electrical, thermal, magnetic, optical, vacuum, and cryogenic techniques.  Excellent communication and supervision skills.

Salary Range

$38,000–46,000+ depending on qualifications.
