Description

The School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences (SMAPS) at the University of New England invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure-track faculty position in Physics at the rank of Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor, to begin August 16, 2021. The school seeks an individual who is highly committed to an academic appointment with an emphasis on excellence in teaching at a primarily undergraduate institution and who will become an actively engaged member of the School, College, and University communities.

Responsibilities

Teaching responsibilities will primarily be in the year-long General Physics sequence teaching student-centered studio physics sections. The School provides instruction to a wide range of life and health science majors and seeks to connect relevant biological content to a physics concept foundation of mechanics, fluids and waves.

The sequence uses modeling physics instruction with activities adapted and implemented for an “Introductory Physics for the Life Sciences” (IPLS) approach.


Qualifications

A Master’s degree in Physics or a closely-related field is required by time of hire. Candidates with a Ph.D. in Physics are preferred.

Individuals with experience and/or training in physics education research, guided inquiry techniques (such as modeling instruction), and/or teaching introductory physics for life and health science majors are especially encouraged to apply.
