Job Description:

The Department of Physics in the Feinstein School of Social and Natural Sciences at Roger Williams University invites applications for a full time (9-month), non-tenure track Lecturer position beginning in August 2023. We seek a candidate with a minimum of an M.S. in physics or a closely related field with a strong track record of teaching undergraduate physics courses, especially introductory courses. We are particularly interested in candidates who can contribute to areas in which the program is growing, specifically with ties to physics education, food science, and/or the Blue Economy.

Lecturers typically teach 24 contact hours (i.e., four course sections per semester) annually, and additionally have academic advising and service responsibilities. Lecturers have no research responsibilities or expectations and are not afforded teaching releases for scholarship, but have access to Professional Development funding. Although Lecturer positions are non-tenure track, they are renewable via annual contracts for the first three years, and for three-year contracts thereafter.

Specific Duties Include:

  • Teaching undergraduate physics service courses and the associated laboratories.
  • Designing and teaching other classes related to their specialty in physics on occasion.
  • Serving on school or university committees.
  • Academic advising of students.
  • Attending department meetings.
  • Attending some admissions events to represent the program.
  • Contributing to the future development of the program in areas of physics education, food science, and/or the Blue Economy.
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements:

The candidate must have a M.S. degree in Physics or related field at the time of appointment. The most desirable candidates will have a Ph.D. and/or at least two years of experience teaching at the undergraduate level and will be able to relate their research and experience to physics education, food science, and/or the Blue Economy.

At the University's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
