The overall goal of the REinforcing Women In REsearch (REWIRE) Programme is to support the careers of excellent postdoctoral female researchers at the University of Vienna.

Fellows will be employed at the University of Vienna for the duration of the fellowship and be paid a postdoctoral researcher salary in line with Austria’s Collective Bargaining Agreement for University Staff (salary group B1(b), the current 2018 salary is 3,803.90 EUR (gross), payable 14 times a year).

Our research focus:

Physics Education Research

The Austrian Educational Competence Centre Physics was founded in 2007. In a framework of Conceptual Change and Design-Based Research, we develop and assess Teaching-Learning-Sequences for middle and high school physics classrooms. Large projects of the past focused on the 2D-Dynamics-Curriculum.  At the moment we work on students’ learning of radiation. Additionally we have a focus on the development of the PCK of pre-service physics teachers.

The Physics Instructor position is a 9-month, tenure-track faculty position with an anticipated start date of August 2019. The successful candidate will teach a variety of physics courses including Introductory Physics, Algebra-Based Physics, Calculus-Based Physics, Physics Labs, and may teach other Physical Science courses as assigned. The position requires the effective teaching and advising of diverse students, excellent oral and written communication skills, and a commitment to the comprehensive state college mission. In addition, the instructor will prepare course plans and materials, effectively deliver subject matter content, monitor student attendance and progress, participate on departmental and College committees, participate in curriculum development, support activities that foster retention, participate in the selection of textbooks, perform the assessment of student learning outcomes, and take part in other service and professional development activities. Multiple campus, day, evening, and distance learning teaching assignments are possible. This position reports to the Department Head, Natural Sciences.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from a regionally-accredited institution with a master’s degree in Physics. Successful results of a criminal background check are required.

  • Coordinate, manage and grow the Community for Advancement of Physics Education (CAPE), a collaborative group consisting of both in-service and pre-service high school physics teachers along with university learning assistants.
  • Identify opportunities and develop solutions for continuous program improvement related to curricula, pedagogy, advising, mentoring, recruitment and retention, career/workforce preparation, resources and faculty development.
  • Assist with recruiting students to become physics teachers from current students, area high schools, and the community.
  • Works closely with department faculty to enhance teaching methods and course content.
  • Lead, coordinate and manage CAPE teacher workshops.
  • Provide mentorship to pre-service teachers and learning assistants.
  • Coordinating the Learning Assistant Program by identifying how to utilize learning assistants to enhance program and course success.

Equipment Utilized	Position regularly uses all software, systems, and equipment necessary to provide effective and efficient management of laboratories and teaching, including but not limited to, laboratory equipment and specialized software, and the MS Office Suite, Apple products, Cornerstone, RU Marketplace, RAPSS, ECRT, HCM, and any and all systems the University uses for laboratory instruction, research and grant submission, financial management, procurement, safety, inventory, reporting, training, Protection of Minors, accident reporting, payroll and personnel management, facilities and space, and the equipment, software, and all specialized materials needed to support the effective and efficient performance of this position.
Physical Demands and Work Environment	- Fast-paced, deadline-driven, community-oriented, team environment with requirement to skillfully and professionally handle multiple shifting priorities, and to interact successfully with a wide range of individuals at all levels of the University and external community. - Responsibilities may include attendance at and participation in evening and weekend activities. Laboratory environment. - Relevant safety training and procedures mandatory. - Must be able to lift and move up to 30 pounds.

Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary	The Physics Department at Auburn University is seeking a highly qualified individual for a Lecturer position. This is a nine-month, non-tenure track position for the 2019-2020 academic year. The expected salary range is between $47,000 and $51,000 for the nine-month appointment. The successful candidate will be expected to: (1) teach introductory and upper-level undergraduate courses in physics, (2) interact with other faculty and staff to contribute to current and future innovative pedagogical efforts in undergraduate teaching, and (3) supervise graduate teaching assistants. Minimum Qualifications	Applicants must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Physics or a related field at the time the appointment begins. Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills are required.
