Summary:

Position Summary:This is a full-time, term, academic-year faculty appointment reporting to the Department Head of Natural Sciences. The Instructor is responsible for course delivery and evaluation of student work, and the teaching schedule may include evening and/or weekend classes in addition to weekday assignments. The Instructor may be assigned to teach on more than one Southwest campus. Student advising is also part of the instructor's responsibilities.  
Required Education and Work Experience:Master's degree from an accredited institution with 18 hours of graduate-level coursework in physics;

OR a Master's degree with a major in physics.

Demonstrated excellence in lecture and laboratory teaching at the community college level is preferred.

Candidates with a Ph.D. in physics and meet the coursework requirements are preferred.

Minimum of one (1) year of excellence in teaching experience in classroom/laboratory instruction at the community college level or at least one (1) full time equivalent experience in higher education is preferred.  
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics:Knowledge and ability to convey complex physical concepts to a diverse student population, including selecting and implementing training and instructional methods appropriate for learning or teaching new concepts to a diverse student population.

Knowledge of current teaching and learning strategies to facilitate student-centered learning; experience interacting successfully with academically and culturally diverse student populations.

Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written forms and use technology for lecture and laboratory instruction.

Ability to compile, administer and grade assigned coursework fairly and consistently and keep students informed about their progress through prompt grading of examinations and other work.

Ability to manage student records and carry out the mission of the college or department.

Ability to advise students in course work.

Excellent presentation and organizational skills.

Proficiency with computers and instructional technology.

Skills in selecting and using instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things.  
Primary Tasks and Responsibilities:Delivers instruction in introductory physics, general physics and physics for health sciences and engineering (develops curricula and instructional materials). Full-time load is 15 hours per semester.

Prepares course materials such as homework assignments and delivering lecture and laboratory instruction according to an approved course syllabus.

Advises students in General Studies, physics, and other programs, and other advising duties as required.

Maintains office hours for performing academic advising for students, assist students with course-related problems outside of the classroom, and other course related duties.

Maintains accurate student attendance records, grades, and other required records in compliance with federal FERPA regulations.

Serves on college, division, and departmental committees, and supports and participates in student activities.

May perform other duties as assigned by Department Head or Dean.
