St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley is seeking a Physics/Physical Science Instructor/Assistant Professor.
Requires a Masters degree in Physics or a Masters degree and 30 approved graduate semester hours in subject or related field. Seeking a teaching- and student-oriented full-time faculty member to teach college-level physics and physical science classes. Primary teaching responsibilities may include Engineering Physics and College Physics.
In addition to classroom teaching responsibilities, the successful candidate will be expected to participate in departmental and college committees and campus professional activities, involvement with business and community organizations as appropriate, active participation in professional organizations, and on- and off-campus K-12 outreach activities.
Preference will be given to individuals with teaching experience in community college setting and the potential for providing academic and programmatic leadership to the physics and natural science offerings of the college. Leadership activities could include: developing courses and activities for enhancing science understanding and literacy for all, improving and creating new courses, use of technology in instruction, articulation and relations with universities and K-12 schools, and working with the department lab staff in maintaining and upgrading laboratory facilities.
A successful candidate will be expected to have the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff with diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and racial/ethnic backgrounds as well as diverse abilities/disabilities and sexual preference. Begins August 2009.
