Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Assistant-Associate Professors of Practice, University of the Pacific
The Gladys L. Benerd School of Education seeks applicants for three Assistant-Associate Professor of Practice positions to work in the School's teacher programs. These are non-tenure track positions.
Ideal applicants for these positions will possess terminal degrees in education and will have substantial practical/professional experience in teacher education/teacher development in P-12 educational settings. Ideal applicants will be excellent teachers with scholarly interests that focus on the application of knowledge to immediate, contextual problems of policy and practice. Ideal applicants will also possess expertise in one or more of the following areas: special education, preparation of secondary (single subject) teachers, mathematics and/or science education.
An ideal applicant will be someone who has demonstrated his/her commitment to diversity and inclusiveness and who has shown that he/she can work effectively in multicultural settings. This applicant will also possess the capacity for leadership, a record of developing and implementing successful, innovative teacher education/ teacher development programs; the ability to build strong and lasting partnerships with teachers, administrators, schools, and districts; the skills of an effective teacher/advisor/mentor for aspiring and new teachers; the capacity to secure contracts and grants to support unit outreach; and the willingness and ability to function as a part of a collaborative team.
Each faculty member in a Professor of Practice Position will be expected to teach within the unit's teacher credential programs. As noted above, these Professors of Practice will be assigned to work, especially in the following areas of need: special education, mathematics/science education; preparation of single subject teachers; preparing teachers for culturally diverse classrooms; designing and supervising experiential learning/internships for teacher candidates. Depending upon experience, each may also be expected to serve as a program director for at least one of the School of Education's teacher education programs (i.e. elementary/multiple subject; secondary/single subject; special education.) All Professors of Practice will be actively involved in program design; student advising, developing and supervising teacher candidates in fieldwork, student teaching, or internships; implementing the unit's assessment system; and establishing and sustaining partnerships with schools and districts in our region.
