TT at Purdue North Central

All positions are ten-month, full-time tenure-track faculty positions beginning August 17, 2009 (unless otherwise indicated). The teaching load is between 11-14 contact hours per semester. Some courses may be taught in the evenings, online or at off-campus locations, including two correctional facilities. Academic advising, participating in campus governance, attendance at commencement, and pursuing one's research interests are included among faculty duties. Learning (teaching) is the primary function of a faculty member at this campus, and a Discovery (research) agenda appropriate to the discipline is required. Learning, Discovery and Engagement are central to the Strategic Plan of Purdue University North Central. Opportunity exists for summer employment.

Department of Mathematics/Statistics/Physics Assistant Professor of Physics.
Responsibilities: Primarily teaching college level physics courses. Duties may include teaching introductory mathematics and astronomy, developing and teaching blended or distance learning courses, and academic advising. The department currently offers the first two years of an undergraduate physics program, and provides service courses in Physics, Introductory Astronomy, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences, and Mathematics so support campus degree and certificate programs, including a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering. Degrees in other engineering disciplines are currently under consideration. In addition, starting fall 2009, the department will offer upper level physics and mathematics courses as part of a new B.S. degree in Secondary Mathematics Education, with tracks in Physics and Physical Science likely to follow in 2-3 years. Qualifications: Earned Ph.D. in Physics or Applied Physics with strong commitment to excellence and innovation in teaching is required. Documented teaching success in physics at college level is highly desirable. Previous experience in teaching Introductory Astronomy a plus. Willingness to use technology to enhance teaching/learning is expected. Preference will be given to candidates who can involve students in research.
