The Department of Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) in the College of Human Sciences at Iowa State University seeks a senior leader as a Professor or Associate Professor in Mathematics or Science Education beginning in August 2012 whose scholarship focuses upon issues in science and/or mathematics teacher education. As a portion of his/her appointment, this person will serve as ISU’s Director of The Center for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Education (CESMEE), an established team of science educators, math educators, PreK-14 educators, scientists, mathematicians and engineers (http://cesmee.hs.iastate.edu/homepage.html ). This team is firmly committed to STEM teacher education, teaching and learning. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong history of collaborative scholarship, external grant funding, and commitment to improving STEM education. The CESMEE Director will have a tenure home in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction (C&I), with his/her faculty responsibilities divided between teaching, research, service, and outreach
Position responsibilities as CESMEE Director will include providing leadership for CESMEE to establish a solid reputation for innovative and high quality work in STEM teacher education, teaching and learning; as well as supporting innovative projects among STEM stakeholders to build capacity and expand infrastructure within the Center. Position responsibilities as a C&I faculty member will include extending an active, nationally-recognized research program, teaching graduate and/or undergraduate courses, and advising graduate students.

Required Qualifications: An earned doctorate in Science Education, Mathematics Education or a related field, evidence of effective leadership and collaboration in creating and implementing successful STEM initiatives, evidence of excellence in research and teaching, experience that demonstrates a strong history of securing and implementing funded projects, and an academic record qualifying for appointment as associate or full professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction.
Preferred Qualifications: Teaching experience in PK-12 settings, and a demonstrated commitment to working with diverse student, staff and community members.
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications.
