PHYSICS INSTRUCTOR, Concourse (part-time, 50%), to join an interdisciplinary program in which physics, mathematics, and chemistry are integrated with the teaching of humanities. Primary responsibility will be to teach rigorous freshman physics classes in mechanics and E&M, including coordinating topics, homework sets, exams, etc., with other Concourse instructors in the sciences and humanities in order to create an integrated educational experience; and liaising with the Physics Department at MIT and with other physics instructors. Other activities will include participation in weekly seminars, advising, program review, and other activities that enhance the educational experience for students; and attending occasional social events. If the instructor has a background in mathematics, could also teach math classes.
Concourse is a learning community comprised of students (up to sixty freshman each year) and instructors who have broad intellectual interests and who wish to address fundamental questions of nature, mathematics, politics, and ethics deeply and thoughtfully.
REQUIREMENTS: a Ph.D. in physics (Ph.D. or master's in mathematics also possible), teaching experience, and evidence of a strong commitment to teaching and education. Seek individuals who are interested in engaging broadly with the Concourse community and are committed to student learning and development.
