The Graduate School of Education at Rutgers University seeks a postdoctoral research scientist in assessment and measurement. The postdoctoral fellow will join the research team of an NSF funded project to investigate the theoretical validity and practical implementation of learning progressions in science education. The project involves the development of assessments, and instructional materials to study two competing learning progressions in genetics at the high school level. The postdoctoral fellow will assist in the development and validation of multiple forms of assessments using the Evidence-Centered Design approach and multidimensional item response models. The successful candidate will be expected to become a full participant in the project (i.e. help organize research activities, collect and analyze data, present and publish articles that emerge from the research); as well as work with and assist in the mentorship of graduate and undergraduate students involved in the project.

Qualifications: PhD in assessment and measurement or related field at time of appointment. The ideal candidate will have expertise/experience in: (a) analysis of measurement data (expertise in IRT preferred), and b) development of assessments (expertise with the BEAR Assessment System preferred). Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with K-12 teachers and students are essential. The ideal candidate will be flexible, reliable and organized, with excellent oral and written communication skills. The candidate must be able to work independently as well as be collaborative and participate cooperatively in close-knit research team.

Salary: Commensurate with candidate experience

The appointment is renewed annually, but expected duration would be 2-3 years.
