VAP at Stetson University (FL)

Stetson University seeks applications for a nine-month appointment as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics, starting in August of 2012. This position is renewable for an additional academic year, contingent on performance. We invite applicants who wish to gain experience teaching in a high quality program that values a close collaborative relationship with students, under the mentorship of experienced senior faculty. A Ph.D. in Physics (or a closely related field) is preferred, but applicants who are ABD could be considered at a visiting lecturer level. Teaching experience beyond typical teaching assistantship duties in graduate school will be considered advantageous, but is not absolutely required. Candidates can expect to teach an introductory level course with multiple lab sections and an advanced-level theory course in physics each semester. They will also have the opportunity to contribute to collaborative efforts to design curriculum and develop recruiting materials for a proposed track in Applied Physics. Interested candidates may have the opportunity to supervise senior research projects. Additional information about the department can be found at http://stetson.edu/artsci/physics/.

Applicants must submit the following materials for consideration: 1) a cover letter summarizing the candidate’s interest in the position and qualifications, 2) a statement of the candidate's teaching philosophy, 3) a curriculum vitae, 4) copies of undergraduate and graduate transcripts, and 5) three letters of recommendation sent under separate cover by the recommenders via e-mail or mail, at least one of which should include an evaluation of teaching ability. Applicants interested in mentoring senior research projects should include a statement of research interests and a description of how undergraduate students could participate. Applicants will be considered on an ongoing basis until the position is filled. Stetson University encourages applications from members of underrepresented groups in physics.

Application materials may be submitted electronically to Ms. Laura Glander at physics@stetson.edu or mailed to the following address:
