Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a visiting
instructor of physics in the Department of Physics to begin September 1,
2014.
While not full-time, this is a benefits eligible position whose
compensation will be commensurate with the final level of teaching
responsibility and candidate qualifications.
Minimum qualifications for this position include an earned
Master's degree in physics or closely related field (Ph.D. preferred),
but will
consider candidates who have achieved ABD status. The successful
candidate must have a record of successful physics teaching at the TA
level
or beyond, and be comfortable teaching with modern laboratory
instructional equipment and software. Previous academic experience with
diverse populations is highly desirable.
Primary responsibilities include approximately 10 contact hours
per week in lecture and laboratory courses at the introductory and/or
advanced undergraduate level during the fall and spring semesters. If
desired, there will be some opportunities for collaboration in
undergraduate research in AMO, optics, acoustics, and other fields,
although research activity is not an expectation of this position. A
commitment to teaching is important.
The Physics Department offers a comprehensive major and graduates
an average of 17 +/- 3 students per year, of whom a very high
percentage
pursue graduate and professional degrees. The department is staffed by 6
FTE faculty, and is housed in the well-equipped 64,000 square-foot
Olin Hall of Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science.
To apply, please email (as PDF files) the letter of application,
