Clark College is currently accepting applications for a full-time, tenure-track Physics Instructor. The successful candidate will provide instruction in physics courses for science and engineering (STEM) majors, algebra/trigonometry-based general physics courses, and/or non-science majors' courses in Introductory Physics, Physical Science, and Astronomy. The individual hired will actively work with colleagues to develop and revise an active learning curricula and pedagogy for all courses offered by the department. Department and college service work is expected with the position (as assigned by the Division or college) to support the institutional mission and goals, foremost being student success and retention.  Position Responsibilities:
General Faculty Responsibilities
  • Instruct all classes as an expert in the discipline using active learning approaches that both engage and facilitate student learning.
  • Instruct all classes utilizing technology (e.g. learning management systems, web-based simulations or other) as part of their course design (web-enhanced, hybrid or online) to facilitate student learning and success.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, local industry, advisory committees, and other educational partners to create unique and sustainable learning opportunities at Clark College.
  • Advise and assist students in educational and career development to attain a two-year degree, certificate or transfer to a four-year college.
  • Participate in decision-making processes by taking part in Department and College committees.
  • Pursue professional development that strives to enhance teaching and learning in the department, STEM Unit and College.
  • Work to enhance and support all forms of diversity on a college campus.
 Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or higher from an accredited institution in Physics or closely related field.
  • One academic year (9 months or equivalent aggregated part-time) relevant experience as a lecture instructor for college level physics.
  • Ability to work well with people of all ages from academically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds.
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Physics from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of two academic years (18 months) of full-time college level instruction, preferably at the two-year college level.
  • An understanding of the mission of the two-year college and current challenges/opportunities available to shape a 21st century educational system.
  • A demonstrated commitment to student learning at the undergraduate level through pedagogical design and instructional methods to meet the needs of diverse student populations.
  • Demonstrated experience using a variety of teaching and assessment techniques, including the use of technology and active learning, to support student success in a college physics course.
  • A desire and ability to participate in a variety of departmental and campus activities to enhance student success, retention and completion of their educational goals.
  • Willingness to seek a leadership role in areas of educational and professional expertise and work well as the member of a team.
 Supplemental Information:
Salary Statement
 
Starting salary is $48,200 (non-negotiable). Faculty may be eligible to advance every other year; current top step is $69,788. Salary is for a 173-day contract; additional compensation is available for summer and moonlight teaching, and doctoral and vocational stipends.
