TT at Austin Peay State University


Applications are solicited for the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Austin Peay State University. This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position to begin Fall 2013. Salary is commensurate with experience.


The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Austin Peay State University is a growing department consisting of eight faculty, two staff members, and approximately 80 undergraduate majors. We have active experimental and computational research in astronomy, chemical physics, and materials physics with an emphasis on glasses. Department facilities include a recently established $500k materials fabrication and characterization laboratory, theAPSU observatory housing a 0.5m telescope and membership in the WIYN0.9m Consortium, and a dedicated 256-core computer cluster. APSU was recently selected for the Chronicle of Higher Education’s Honor Roll of Great Colleges to Work For 2012. Clarksville is centrally located in Tennessee, approximately 45 minutes from Nashville and 3.5 hours from both Oak Ridge National Lab and NASAĆ¢??s Marshall Space Flight Center. Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. in physics, astronomy, or a related field, and have the ability to teach undergraduate physics and astronomy classes at both the lower- and upper-level. Research interests that can involve undergraduate students, are complementary to those in the department, and/or have potential for collaborative efforts within the department are preferred.
