The Department of Physics and Astronomy of Dickinson
College invites applications for a one-year sabbatical replacement
position beginning July 2013. Dickinson College is a highly selective
four-year liberal arts college with an active and innovative science
program. The Department is housed in a state-of-the-art building,
equipped with smart classrooms, research labs, a planetarium, and
observatory.
The physics major features a
project-centered, hands-on curriculum beginning with the
internationally-known Workshop Physics, an activity-based introductory
course developed here at Dickinson. The Department graduates
approximately ten majors per year, one-third of whom are women. The
ability to create inclusive learning environments for an increasingly
diverse student body will be an important characteristic of the
successful candidate. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in physics and will
be expected to teach primarily introductory physics courses, with the
possibility of also teaching an upper-level physics course. Ideally,
applicants will be able to engage undergraduate majors in research.
