TT at Bates College


The Bates College Department of Physics and Astronomy invites applications from Ph.D experimental physicists for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor to begin August 1, 2013.  All fields of experimental physics will be considered.  The successful candidate must demonstrate potential for teaching excellence in a vigorous undergraduate program, welcome the opportunity for close interaction with serious students, propose to undertake a program of research that is accessible to advanced undergraduate physics majors and share with other members of the department responsibility for introductory physics and general-education courses in physics or astronomy.  The college and the Department of Physics and Astronomy are committed to enhancing the diversity of the campus community and the curriculum.  Candidates who can contribute to this goal are encouraged to apply and identify their strengths and experiences in this area.   Bates has a strong tradition of interdisciplinary studies, and encourages applications from candidates who can contribute to interdisciplinary programs.
A full time teaching load is four courses in the first year and five in the subsequent years.  Outstanding applicants who are ABD will be considered; PhD expected at time of appointment. Salary is competitive.
