Lab Coordinator, U of Delaware

The Department of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Delaware seeks a full time (12 months) manager of the undergraduate teaching laboratories. The preferred starting date would be November 15, 2014. The Manager is responsible for the operation of all Physics and Astronomy teaching laboratories, both on the introductory and more advanced levels, and is involved in the design, revision and implementation of the laboratory curricula. In addition, the manager is responsible for the supervision of teaching assistants, and for technical tasks associated with the maintenance of the laboratories. Major responsibilities:
• Design and revision of the laboratory components of physics and astronomy courses to match changes in course content and pedagogical approaches.
• Maintenance of the teaching laboratories, including the advanced optics and electronics ones.
• Training and supervision of ~30 TAs in matters such as safety, laboratory teaching techniques, proper use of instrumentation and software for data acquisition, and data analysis.
• Develop and manage a budget for the educational laboratories.
• Organize and coordinate the laboratory schedules.

Qualifications:
• A bachelor’s degree in physics or related field and five years laboratory experience working with physics instrumentation, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree preferred.
• Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including use of data acquisition and simulation software packages. Experience with LabVIEW preferred.
• Some experience with curriculum development and teaching of introductory physics laboratories preferred.
