Job Summary
Working under the learning college philosophy (http://www.estrellamountain.edu/learning-college) and placing learning first anyway, anyplace, anytime, Estrella Mountain Community College is hiring a short-term Physics Faculty. This position instructs students from diverse backgrounds in various physics courses.
Essential Functions
65% - Supervises and instructs a diverse population of students in an integrated lecture/lab setting; uses learning centered strategies to engage students and promote student success; demonstrates innovation in teaching and learning and the scholarship of learning by focusing on student learning, retention, and achievement; incorporates instructional technology and alternative delivery or scheduling techniques
15% - Develops instructional materials and curriculum; develops written syllabi/course outlines and course materials; assesses and evaluates knowledge of subject matter taught and monitors students' scholastic records; prepares and grades examinations/projects and other learning activities; participates in division and college assessment and program review processes
15% - Maintains office hours to assist and advise students
5% - Remains current with new trends and developments in the field through attendance at conferences, courses, seminars, workshops; performs other duties as assigned commensurate to grade level of position
Minimum Qualifications
1. A master's degree in the teaching field, or a master's in any teaching field with 24 upper division and/or graduate semester hours in the teaching field, or a master's in any teaching field with 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching field
2. EDU 250 - Teaching and Learning in the Community College or equivalent must be completed within two years of date of hire
Desired Qualifications
1. Master's Degree in Physics or Physical Science
2. Experience teaching physics at the college level
3. Experience incorporating best practices from physics education research regarding curriculum, interactive engagement, active learning in physics
4. Experience using probware in an integrated lecture/lab setting
5. Experience teaching University Physics 1 and 2 at the college level
Special Working Conditions
May be required to teach evening courses. May be required to lift up to 40 lbs.

This is a short-term faculty position beginning August 17, 2015 through May 13, 2016.
