Essential Functions:
Include but are not limited to teaching the full complement of the courses in mathematics and physics, which may include assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, extended day as assigned, including evening, Saturdays, online or off-campus; maintaining instruments used in teaching physics; teaching the principles and applications of physics instrumentation; assisting in the coordination of laboratory facilities; assuring the availability of supplies and equipment; serving on college and district committees; evaluating adjunct instructors, and collecting data on student learning outcomes; curriculum and program development and/or revision, including program review and the development and assessment of student learning outcomes for courses and programs; participating in the accreditation process; communicating effectively with students and staff; developing technology used for classroom presentations; advising students; participating in college/district committees; working with community and campus organizations; participating in appropriate professional meetings and workshops; participating in department, division and college committees; cooperating with regard to scheduling classes between colleagues in the same disciplines; participating in student recruiting activities; and otherwise fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
Minimum Qualifications:
Include an earned master’s degree in mathematics and a bachelor’s in physics; OR a master’s in physics and a bachelor’s in mathematics; ORa valid California Community College credential; OR the equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency)AND demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Desirable Qualifications:
Include teaching experiences at the secondary, or post-secondary level; related work experience; the ability and desire to teach the breadth of the department’s course offerings; experience in diverse methods of teaching mathematics and physics including incorporating instructional technologies into the classroom and integrating online resources into instruction; ability to perform specialized and technical duties to assure efficient physics laboratory operations; experience serving on campus committees; knowledge and use of current educational technology and multimedia presentation (computer use in lecture presentations and laboratory exercises, interactive video, etc.); knowledge and experience in the development and assessment of student learning outcomes; knowledge and experience in program review and accreditation; commitment to professional growth including demonstrated willingness to improving teaching methodology; demonstrated ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing; experience with educational technology; demonstrated ability in developing successful instructional strategies for non-traditional or academically at-risk students; experience serving on campus committees; knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals; working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including disabled students; extent of related work and professional experience and potential for contribution to institutional vitality and growth.
Conditions of Employment:
177 duty days.
Salary and Benefits:
Starting salary is $53,483 – $80,521 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $2,001 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including health, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS).
Selection Procedure:
Applications will be screened to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.
From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents, a selection committee will determine the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications. They will be invited to interview.
The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the “recommended candidates”. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President and College President for final interviews. A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.
