TT at Los Rios Community College District

Folsom Lake College (FLC) was established in 2004 as the fourth college in the Los Rios Community College District and serves over 8,000 students each semester. The college and its centers, El Dorado and Rancho Cordova, primarily serve students from the rapidly growing areas of eastern Sacramento and western El Dorado counties, forming a dynamic learning community committed to academic excellence and innovation. The Harris Center for the Arts, a regional performing arts center located at the college's main campus, offers tremendous teaching and learning opportunities and brings the arts, culture and entertainment to both the college and the surrounding communities.
FLC is an open access, comprehensive community college that provides educational opportunities designed to enrich and empower students and inspire excellence. FLC awards Associate in Arts or Science degrees, and transfer degrees; Career Technical Education certificates, transfer credit for students who intend to continue their education at a four year college or university, instruction in basic skills math and English, and English for non-native speakers.
The college mission is focused on a rigorous educational program with a strong focus on student success. To this end, the college provides a broad range of degree and certificate programs, a comprehensive student services program, a variety of learning modalities including online and hybrid courses, as well as numerous opportunities for student engagement and leadership. The college also provides classes in a variety of scheduling formats including semester, short term, and weekend and incorporates the newest technologies for classroom instruction.

Position Summary:
General Responsibilities:
The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in his/her regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty as outlined in the college faculty handbook.

Additional Position Summary:
The department maintains a focus on team work, excellence in teaching, collaboration, promotion of student success, and providing high quality physics and astronomy instruction across the range of courses. As well as diversity in teaching styles - recognizing that different students need different options in classroom styles.
We recognize the value in working collaboratively in order to promote success in the classroom and professional growth. We are looking for faculty to join our team of two full-time faculty members and more than five adjunct professors in this pursuit.
Our goal is to build a team of professionals who share enthusiasm for building and maintaining outstanding physics and astronomy programs and creating an educational environment that is welcoming and supportive for all students.
We strive to hold and communicate clear, consistent expectations and standards, encourage our students to pursue scientific knowledge, demonstrate enthusiasm for our subject matter, provide hands on instruction in physics and astronomy labs, and be helpful with department decisions as in textbooks, equipment and management

Assignment Responsibilities:
The instructional assignment may include, but is not limited to, courses from General Astronomy to Calculus based Physics classes.
Teaching assignment may include day, evening, on-line, hybrid, weekend, and/or off campus classes at El Dorado Center, Rancho Cordova Center, or other locations.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Have a master's degree from an accredited institution completed by August 18, 2016 in Physics, Astronomy, or Astrophysics; OR bachelor's in Physics or Astronomy AND master's in Engineering, Mathematics, Meteorology, or Geophysics; OR hold a California Community College Instructor's Credential in the discipline area; OR the equivalent.*
2. Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles.
