Gonville and Caius College gives notice of its intention to elect in 2011 to a number of Research Fellowships. Research Fellowships provide employment for academics in the early stages of their career. Junior Research Fellowships at Imperial College London

Programs Manager at APS

The American Physical Society (APS) www.aps.org, the premier membership association for physicists, seeks a dynamic and personable science professional to fill the position of Minority Bridge Program Project Manager based at APS Headquarters in College Park, MD (near DC Metro Green Line). At present, this is a part-time (.50 FTE), one-year position, however it is anticipated that this position will be extended to full time beginning mid-year 2011. The Minority Bridge Program Project Manager reports to the APS Director of Education and Outreach and works in conjunction with the Diversity Programs Administrator, to organize and carry out program elements aimed at developing national bridge programs that will increase the number of minorities receiving doctoral degrees in physics. Responsibilities include: Extensive travel (10-12 short overnight trips) to minority serving institutions to establish contacts and set up recruiting links with minority students suitable for entry into bridge programs at doctoral institutions. Organize a summer national gathering to bring together minority students, doctoral granting institution faculty, and minority-serving institution faculty to further plans for establishing bridge programs, provide initial mentoring for students, and build energy in the community for continued work on this project; conduct a literature review into known barriers that limit minority participation in graduate programs, and summarize the findings in a web document outlining the issues; write summary documents and plans for the next steps in establishing bridge programs.

Graduate Fellowships in East Asia

The National Science Foundation (NSF) East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes for U.S. Graduate Students (EAPSI) is a flagship international fellowship program for developing the next generation of globally engaged U.S. scientists and engineers knowledgeable about the Asian and Pacific regions. The Summer Institutes are hosted by foreign counterparts committed to increasing opportunities for young U.S. researchers to work in research facilities and with host mentors abroad. Fellows are supported to participate in eight-week research experiences at host laboratories in Australia, China, Japan (10 weeks), Korea, New Zealand, Singapore and Taiwan from June to August. Part Time Research Assistant at CUNY

General Description:
The City University of New York (CUNY) and the NYC Department of Education (DOE) are collaborating in the areas of research, partner engagement, aligning academic standards, advisement and counseling, and accountability and sustainability. This partnership is supported by a three-year Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Communities Learning in Partnership (CLIP) grant, and aims to increase the number of students who graduate from New York City public schools ready for college level work and to increase the number of students from New York City who complete a college degree.

Under the supervision of CUNY and DOE, and in support of the development of the CLIP grant, the Research Assistant will perform simple to moderately complex research utilizing education data sets, investigation, or analytic activities as part of a research team or working individually.

Given the immediate needs of the project, the selected candidate must be available to begin work quickly. The position is available for one year.

• Assists research staff and CLIP team in coordinating research projects;
• Follows protocols for gathering qualitative and/or quantitative data, coding data or information, constructing data bases using specified technology, analyzing data, maintaining data security, and archiving data as needed;.
