JOB SUMMARY:
The instructor will have the opportunity to teach a variety of general education physics (algebra and calculus-based) and sophomore-level engineering courses to both science and non-science majors, including associated laboratory sections. The successful candidate should be able to work with students from a wide range of academic preparedness and collaborate with other faculty in professional activities. The normal teaching load is 17 contact hours (3-4 courses) per semester, which will include some evening classes. Candidates must exhibit an effective teaching style that supports a diverse student body.

Qualifications:

CORE COMPETENCIES:
The instructor will demonstrate a commitment to education and a willingness to teach a broad range of both physics and engineering courses (including Statics, Dynamics, Strength of Materials, and Circuit Analysis) in the College’s general education and engineering transfer programs. This full-time faculty member is also responsible for preparing and delivering instruction for 21st century learners and assessing student learning outcomes as appropriate to ensure academic quality. The candidate will be an engaged learning facilitator/instructor who will utilize a range of teaching and learning strategies to foster active learning and student success, which contributes to the fulfillment of the College's strategic goals. The instructor is expected to participate in activities or on committees that contribute to success of students.
REQUIRED QUALIFCIATIONS:
Master's Degree in Physics or Engineering or a related field. Demonstration of a commitment to community college goals and philosophy. Must communicate effectively in spoken and written English.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in the complementary field (Physics or Engineering) highly desirable, along with a strong mathematical background. Community college teaching experience preferred. Prior experience in development of curricula in physics and/or engineering at the community college level is strongly recommended. Background or industrial experience in practical aspects of engineering, while not requires, is also strongly recommended. Applicants should be willing to teach using alternative delivery methods.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Sufficient content knowledge within the teaching discipline to effectively teach students what they must learn.
WORKLOAD SUMMARY:

1-year Position at Berea College, KY

The Physics Program at Berea College invites applications for a one-year position at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2014. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in physics, be an experimentalist, possess a strong commitment to undergraduate liberal arts education, and be skilled in the ability to actively engage undergraduate students in research. Previous college-level teaching experience is strongly preferred. SUMMARY
As a member of the Physics Department in the Division of Natural Sciences (www.nic.edu/natsci), the physics instructor will provide instruction in approximately four courses per semester. The teaching assignment may be selected from the following courses: Phys 101, Phys 103, Phys 111, Phys 112, Phys 211, Phys 212 (www.nic.edu/catalog). The Department: The Physics department is a small department consisting of two full time faculty members and one part time instructor.  The Physics department serves majors in physics, engineering, and math.  The Physics department’s small class sizes, supportive faculty and facilities provide an excellent learning environment for all physics students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This list includes but is not limited to the following:

• Teaches a minimum of 15 equivalent credit hours per semester as assigned and maintains additional weekly contractual hours, including a minimum of five office hours, five campus hours and five discretionary hours divided between office and campus hours for a total of 30 hours on campus per week
