Position Overview:
The Physical Sciences Department at Rhode Island College consists of 5 physicists, 8 chemists, 2 earth scientists and 1 science educator and offers undergraduate degrees in both chemistry and physics. In the physics and physical sciences programs we teach a wide range of students, including traditional physics majors, physics majors with an interest in secondary education and students interested in middle school science and elementary education. We also provide service courses for biology, mathematics, radiation technology majors and the general education population. We have a strong commitment to engaging undergraduates in research with the majority of our students participating in some research while they are at the College. We are looking for a candidate with research interests that complement the existing strengths of the department in condensed matter physics, materials physics and statistical mechanics.

Duties and Responsibilities:
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Job Functions:

-Teach undergraduate physics and physical science courses.
-Advise majors on program requirements and research opportunities.
-Engage in scholarly research and professional activities.
-Mentor undergraduate research students.
-Serve on college and departmental committees.
-Develop experimental laboratory exercises for introductory and upper-level courses.

Occasional Job Functions:
-Teach other courses as appropriate.
-Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Department Chair.
