FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Natural Sciences, LaGuardia Community College, seeks to fill a tenure-track faculty vacancy in Physics at the Assistant Professor rank with an individual with a firm commitment to teaching and research. The successful candidate will be required to teach undergraduate courses in one or more of the following areas: physics at all levels up to and including modern physics and introductory astronomy, calculus based general physics courses and laboratories, non-majors physical science course with laboratory, and other courses according to interest and need.

The appointee will participate in developing new courses and improving existing curriculum to meet the growing needs of the department. Development of a viable research program and grant writing is expected. Student mentoring is an important component of the duties of faculty and successful candidates will be required to develop research programs that will involve students. The duties also include effective participation in departmental, school, college and university-wide activities. LaGuardia emphasizes excellent teaching in a student-focused environment: candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and the ability to work with a diverse population.

The successful candidate will share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate must have an earned Ph.D. in Physics with excellent teaching credentials. Teaching experience is also required, preferably at the college level. Excellent communication skills as well as a record of ongoing scholarly achievement are important. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, interest in productive scholarship or creative achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
